INROADS/Northern New Jersey opened with 36 interns sponsored by 17 corporations in 1984.

Grants from Victoria Foundation ($50,000), AT&T (40,000), Mutual Benefit Life ($40,000), New Jersey Bell ($40,000), Bristol-Myers ($37,500), Continental Insurance (25,000), Turrell Fund ($25,000), and PSE&G ($20,000) were pledge for the start-up of the affiliate.
